In addition to the development of our hockey players and enjoyment of the sport of hockey, the safety and protection of our participants is central to LEGACY20 Arena DeForest. LEGACY20 Arena DeForest adheres to USA Hockey’s SafeSport Program to help protect its participants from physical abuse, bullying, threats, harassment, and hazing. To prevent abuse or misconduct from occurring in our locker rooms, LEGACY20 Arena DeForest has adopted the following locker room policy. This policy is designed to maintain personal privacy as well as to reduce the risk of misconduct in locker rooms.
LEGACY20 Arena DeForest has predictable and limited use of locker rooms and changing areas (e.g., generally 30-45 minutes before and following practices and games). This allows for direct and regular monitoring of locker room areas. While constant monitoring inside of locker rooms and changing areas might be the most effective way to prevent problems, we understand that this would likely make some players uncomfortable and may even place our staff at risk for unwarranted suspicion.
Parents. Except for players at the younger age groups, we discourage parents from entering locker rooms unless it is truly necessary. If a player needs assistance with his or her uniform or gear, if the player is or may be injured, or a player’s disability warrants assistance, then we ask that parents let the coach know beforehand that he or she will be helping the player. Naturally, with our youngest age groups it is necessary for parents to assist the players getting dressed. We encourage parents to teach their players as young as possible how to get dressed so that players will learn as early as possible how to get dressed independently. As players get older, the coach may, in his or her discretion, prohibit parents from a locker room.
Mixed Gender Teams. If mixed gender teams are using one locker room, all players are required to arrive at the rink wearing their hockey base layers or shorts and t-shirts under their street clothes. All members of the team must have this minimum attire before entering a co-ed locker room so that no player of one gender can see players of other genders in a state of dress/undress. If a player is not wearing the required minimum attire, that player will be directed to a restroom or private area to change into their minimum attire before entering the locker room.
Cell Phones. Cell phones and other mobile devices with recording capabilities, which includes voice recording, still cameras, and video cameras, increase the risk for some forms of abuse or misconduct. As a result, the use of any device’s recording capabilities in the locker rooms, changing areas, or similar spaces are not allowed. Exceptions may be made at the coach’s discretion, provided no players are in a state of dress/undress.
Prohibited Conduct. LEGACY20 Arena DeForest prohibits all types of physical abuse, sexual abuse, emotional abuse, bullying, threats, harassment, and hazing, all as described in the USA Hockey SafeSport Handbook. Participants, employees, or volunteers in Legacy20 Arena Middleton may be subject to disciplinary action for violation of these locker room policies or for engaging in any misconduct or abuse or that violates the USA Hockey SafeSport Policies. Reports of any actual or suspected violations, email USA Hockey at [email protected] or call 1-800-888-4656.
Behavior. Users or LEGACY20 Arena DeForest locker room facilities should exemplify the following behaviors: (1) Show respect to your environment and those around you (2) Keep the locker room by discarding all trash in the proper locations and putting away all equipment (3) Do not remove or damage items within the locker rooms. Players will be held responsible for any damaged or destruction caused (4) Do not make derogatory comments or slurs regarding others race, ethnicity, sexual orientation, or gender. Legacy20 Arena Middleton should be treated as a safe space for all those who use it. A failure to correct behavior may escalate issue to managers, coaches, and association directors.
